TV LEGENDS Des O’Connor and Jimmy Tarbuck will be making a rare appearance together at the BIC on Friday night.

The appearance brings to an end a nine show tour that originally began as a one-off performance for charity Royal Variety at the London Palladium last October- the first time the two stars had performed together at the famous venue.

The Bournemouth night promises to be ‘good old fashioned family fun’ with original footage, a top band playing and the pair appearing on stage together at various points.

Speaking exclusively to the Bournemouth Daily Echo, Des O’Connor, 84, said: “It is different every time we do it. It is more a party than a show. This time we’ll have some wonderful clips, never seen before of me with Freddie Starr.”

“Jimmy said to me recently that he’s enjoyed this tour more than ever. I said ‘I don’t know about that but when I’m on stage it is the best two hours of any day.’ We absolutely love it”

While no stranger to Bournemouth having played the Pavilion and Winter Garden on more than 20 occasions this is his first time at the BIC.

Bournemouth was the setting for an infamous Eric Morecambe joke when in 1967 Des told Eric over a cup of tea near the Pavilion that he wanted to be an international star and got the reply, ‘Yeah, and I’d like to have an affair with Brigitte Bardot, but some things aren’t possible’.

“Eric never stopped ribbing me and you could never come out on top. All in good humour though and the more he insulted me, the more records I sold.

“I remember when I told him I’d just done a one-man show and he said ‘let’s hope two turn up next time’.”
