A PERFORMANCE of a classic novel by Jane Austen will be adding an exquisite touch to the gardens at Kingston Lacy House. Sense and Sensibility will be performed by the Chapterhouse Theatre Company in the gardens near Wimborne on Sunday September 4.

The play tells the story of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, who make their first forays into the exciting world of Regency society. People are invited to combine watching the play with a picnic beforehand in the gardens. Chapterhouse has an established tradition in Austen adaptations, receiving fantastic reviews and performing to sell out venues with adaptations of her warm witted romantic tales.

In past years these have also included productions of Pride and Prejudice and Emma, but this summer Chapterhouse is proud to welcome Sense and Sensibility back to the stage.

Director Sarah Gain said: “Sense and Sensibility is not only a wonderful classic story but this adaptation by Laura Turner is so true to its source it makes it a real delight to work on. “It’s not just the romance that brings a delight, but the sisterly bond between Marianne and Elinor as they face their trials and tribulations is so rich and endearing.”

Writer Laura Turner said: “I’m delighted that Sense and Sensibility is touring with Chapterhouse again this summer. “I’ve always loved this story of love, family, sisterhood and courage, and Elinor and Marianne’s quests to find happiness will always have a fond place in my heart. “I hope this summer that audiences fall in love with the two sisters, just as I did when I first read Jane Austen’s beautiful novel many years ago.”
