THE new 2015 - 2016 Season of Operas beamed in live by satellite from the Metropolitan Opera in New York to the big screen at the Regent in Christchurch, begins in style with one of Verdi's most popular works, Il Trovatore, which can be seen at the Centre on Saturday, October 3 at 5.55pm.

Soprano Anna Netrebko's dramatic and vocal skills are on full display in her next new role at the Met, Leonora, the Verdi heroine who sacrifices her own life for the love of the gypsy troubadour. Tenor Yonghoon Lee sings the ill-fated Manrico, baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky is his rival, Luna and mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick is the mysterious gypsy, Azucena, with the troubled past. Marco Armiliato conducts Sir David McVicar's Goya-inspired production.

Further highlights in this exciting new season from one of the world's premier opera houses will include Othello at 5.55pm on October 17. Later in the month will see Tannhauser at 4pm on October 31.

A new production of Lulu by Berg at 5.30pm takes place on November 21. The New Year sees a new production of Les Pecheurs de Perles by Bizet at 5.55pm on January 16 and Turandot at 5.55pm on January 30. Other shows include Manon Lescaut at 5.55pm on March 5, Madama Butterfly at 5.55pm on April 2, Roberto Devereux at 5.55pm on April 16 and Elektra at 5.55pm on April 30.

Tickets for each opera are £22, Concessions: £20 and there is a season ticket for all ten operas at £140.
