NEXT week sees the Bournemouth Pavilion being put through its paces with the arrival of dance show, Puttin' on the Ritz' running from August 17-22. Producer David King will recreate the golden age of Hollywood on stage with a star-studded cast of singers and dancers.

The newest addition to the show is BBC Strictly Come Dancing star Robin Windsor. The professional ballroom dancer is perhaps best known for partnering the celebrities Patsy Kensit, Lisa Riley and Deborah Meaden on the hit show.

According to Robin, the Bournemouth audience are in for great music from legendary songwriters Irving Berlin, Cole Porter and George Gershwin with vibrant tap dancing numbers and beautiful singing.

“The show is a good night out for the whole family. Parents can bring their children and grandparents can bring grandchildren to sing, dance and have fun. Everyone so far has walked away from the show amazed by what they've seen and with happiness and warmth in their hearts. I hope the same will be in Bournemouth,” says Windsor.

This will not be the first time that the energetic ballroom dancer has visited Dorset. Robin added: “Bournemouth is such a lovely city. I've been to Bournemouth many times. I used to come every year for dance competitions in the Pavilion and the BIC. Most of all I love the beaches, as there aren't many beaches like that in the whole of the UK. I cherish many beautiful memories from there.”

Joining him onstage are his Strictly colleagues Kristina Rhianoff and Anya Garnis who have become very close to him.

“When you are on tour together, you very quickly become one big family. So far I have only danced with Kristina and with her I could dance for 60 years, but I'm specially looking forward to the Bournemouth performances because this will be the first time that Anya and I have danced together.”

The 35 year old star has never seen the show before he started working for it and said that he expected much more ballroom dancing to be involved, but he is not disappointed.

“I was surprised by the amount of tap-dancing involved in this show, at the end there is a six minute tap dance number. I never liked it before, but working on this show I learned to like it and now I even find it sexy.”

Puttin' on the Ritz is famous for its music score, but Robin says that it's not the music he listens to at home.

“In my free time I relax to more modern music, but the songs from the show are something I grew up listening to. I know every song and every beat and the moment I hear them I need to start dancing.”

Windsor is not surprised by the interest surrounding the show so far.

“The tour is going beautifully, the audience loves it and everyone falls in love with the music and dancers on the stage. We have incredible singers and when you combine it all together it makes an absolutely wonderful performance.”

Robin believes that the producer David King is a true professional with a clear vision and the atmosphere on the tour has been amazing. Even the small mistakes couldn't stop them from having fun.

“Just recently on one show Kristina missed her cue and I went out dancing rumba, but without her. She did join me eventually but I had to improvise for a little while alone on the stage.”

Considering the difficult choreography, this ballroom champion prepared for the show only a couple of weeks before the tour, but then again that's why he practices in the gym two hours a day for four days a week. Away from Puttin On The Ritz', Windsor and his muscles will be appearing in the charity show West End Bares 2015 on September 20.

“The show is a project of MAD (Make a Difference Trust) theatre helping HIV and AIDS victims across UK. It's a fun show but there is not much clothes involved, so I I've got to stay fit.”

He says that although he likes TV work, in the future he would like to focus more on theatre.

“My partner Marcus Collins is in a new West End show Kinky Boots and I'm looking forward to seeing him in that. I would like to follow his steps and continue doing something in the theatre.”
