GET on board for the holiday season when one of the most famous feel-good films comes to the big screen at the Regent in Christchurch. Summer Holiday (U), starring Cliff Richard & The Shadows, who had already made the film's title track a number one hit.

Summer Holiday is at the Regent Centre on Tuesday, July 21 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. The film was an absolute sensation in 1962 and its success brought Peter Yates, on his directorial debut, to the attention of Hollywood.

In 1968, Yates went on to direct Bullitt with Steve McQueen. In Summer Holiday, four London Bus mechanics strike up a deal with London Transport to do up a double-decker London Bus, drive it around Europe as a hotel and if they make it a success, they will be put in charge of a whole fleet of double-deckers.While on the road in France, they pick up three English ladies, including the ever chirpy Una Stubbs, whose car has broken down and offer to take them on to their next singing job in Athens. They also pick up a stowaway, a young, American boy.

Meanwhile, back in the UK, a young American female singer has gone missing. Her mother, who is extremely ambitious for her daughter, takes the story to the press and it makes front page news. When she discovers that her daughter is on the bus, she does everything she can to make the story run for as long as possible, including misdirecting the bus up an extremely steep Yugoslavian hill. Then Cliff discovers that the young American boy on the bus is actually the young American girl, Barbara, who is missing.Mayhem ensues as Cliff falls for Barbara. Eventually, when the eight bus passengers reach Athens, they're arrested for kidnapping. In front of her mother and a Ballroom filled with world-press, Barbara and Cliff declare their love for each other and the mother only accepts the situation, after realising how 'big' Cliff will become as a singer. When the film ends, all eight of them are on a beach in Greece and very much enjoying their well-deserved Summer Holiday.
