HISTORIAN David Starkey, known for his forthright views, is making a visit to Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts, on Thursday with an evening called The Tudors and Us.
He will talk about the period he describes as ‘the most glorious soap opera, with the whole future of countries turning on what these huge personalities felt like when they got out of bed in the morning’.
Starkey, a Cambridge-educated grammar school boy who became a respected LSE lecturer, is also a uniquely abrasive debater on Radio 4’s Moral Maze and controversial contributor to Question Time.
He is the creator and presenter of many popular historical TV series on a variety of subjects, including Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, the Monarchy, the Churchills, and recently, Music and Monarchy.
There are few more stimulating thinkers, and few who understand better the way the most powerful have thought throughout our history.
A fascinating evening is guaranteed, and will be followed by a book signing.
- The talk is on Thursday from 7.30pm.
