HE was part of the pop band that told youngsters to ‘climb every mountain’ and ‘reach for the stars’. Now S Club 7’s Jon Lee is coming to Bournemouth as he brings Copacabana back to the stage.

The 32-year-old, who will take the leading role as Tony Starr, told the Daily Echo that the show has been completely reworked especially for this tour.

He said: “We have been very much involved with the creative process. Although the show has been on in the West End for about 10 years, this is a very different show. We have moved the script around.

“All the songs are still there. It’s still going to be the songs that people know and love. It has been a very quick process. It’s quite a small, but incredibly talented crew.

“Because it’s the first time this version is being done it’s been a bit of a rush through, which is quite exciting.”

Copacabana started life as a television musical in 1985, written by and starring Barry Manilow, before being expanded into a full-length stage musical, packed full of hits including Dancin’ Fool, Lola, Who Needs a Dream and, of course, Grammy award-winning Copacabana.

Packed full of 1940s glamour, the original story follows aspiring songwriter Tony Starr who falls in love with wannabe singer Lola.

The tour will be back when it visits the Bournemouth Pavilion between October 27 and November 1.
