MERCURY Music Award winner Talvin Singh is giving a special performance at Pavilion Dance South West tonight as part of the Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival.

Bombay Talkies and Asian Arts Agency presents Devi, a classic film from Indian cinema that will be screened at the venue.

Talvin will be on hand to blend the film with live music to celebrate 101 years of Indian cinema.

The Mercury prize winner has assembled a talented, cross-cultural line of musicians to improvise a new score to this classic of Indian art house.

Exploring the original soundtrack the band will blend classical Indian and contemporary music together for a unique experience.

Devi, which means Goddess, is a work created by Satyajit Ray who is regarded as one of the most significant filmmakers of the 20th century.

The film focuses on a young Indian woman called Dayamoyee who becomes thought of as the reincarnation of the Hindu God of empowerment Kali by her father-in-law after he has a dream telling him that she is Kali.

Others soon start to believe it is true and begin worshipping Dayamoyee, and soon Dayamoyee begins to think that she is the Goddess, but with great consequences.
