SLAPSTICK comedy, the magic of the circus and an inept private detective are just some of the family-friendly shows on offer at a theatre.

A bumper bill of shows and events to suit children of all ages is on offer at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts this autumn.

Folklore and myths are explored with a production of Liverpoool poet Brian Patten’s The Story Giant on September 27 at the Studio. Christian Lee is all set for a lovely day at the seaside in Pop! on October 11 until things don’t quite work out as planned.

Mr Bean meets Charlie Chaplin in this mind-blowing feast of illusion and comedy which features a massive balloon.

Anthony Horowitz’ novel, The Falcon’s Malteser is brought to the stage on October 30, which follows the adventures of the inept private detective Tim Diamond.

Featuring puppetry, slapstick and a cast of four playing multiple roles, it’s perfect for children aged over eight. Birmingham Stage Company’s Horrible Histories returns from November 11 to 15 with new production Barmy Britain.

This year’s Lighthouse pantomime Robin Hood runs from December 7 to January 4 starring CBBC’s Ed Petrie (All Over the Place, Marrying Mum and Dad) and Patrick O’Kane (Game of Thrones, Jamaica Inn) in a fun-packed caper through Sherwood Forest.
