TO say that we are regulars at the Westbourne Tandoori would be an understatement.
It’s now at the stage that if we call to place an order, they don’t bother to ask our name – they just say “Thank you Findley” and tell us to collect in 20 minutes.
Perhaps it’s because we tend to order the same dishes. I know it’s lame but they do them so well!
As always we took the sag aloo for starters…it has just the right amount of zing with chunks of potato coated in spinach and onion and a couple of tomato wedges too – lovely.
And I defy anyone to find a place that does a better butter chicken curry – one of the chef’s specials. I’ve certainly not found anywhere in the last 10 years. Large succulent chunks of barbecued chicken are cooked in fresh cream and garnished with almonds and pistachio nuts and served in a rich butter sauce. As usual this was delicious, creamy and had just the right amount of spice – but definitely not for the calorie conscious!
My other half’s chicken Madras also had just the right amount of heat – just enough chilli powder without making you sweat profusely.
The Westbourne Tandoori is now one of the most established Indian restaurants in Bournemouth and the menu reflects that. This is solid, substantial, no-nonsense traditional food at reasonable prices.
The service is always good and our bill came to a smidgen under £20 (including rice).
