DORSET foodies looking for locally-sourced meat can get produce delivered from the farm to their door with the launch of a new online shop.

The Dorset Meat Company has announced the launch of its new online service which offers home-delivered grass fed and ethically reared meat sourced from family-run farms based in Dorset and Wiltshire.

The Blandford-based company, founded by Nick and Jane Somper, sources its meat from 20 small-scale farms in the region that follow traditional methods of breeding and caring for farm animals in a natural environment.

Nick said: "We believe strongly that small-scale farming is better for the farmer, the animal, the local ecology, and for the consumer.

"We would advocate that we all eat less meat, but when we do, we need to ensure it’s of the highest quality and is produced in a way that respects nature, the environment and the animal.

"Eating meat from animals that themselves have only eaten a natural diet of grass, and wildflowers rich in vitamins and minerals and untainted by growth promoters and chemicals makes a whole lot of sense. It’s a healthy choice to make."

The Dorset Meat Company works with farms in Lower Nyland, Shilligstone and Kington Magna, as well as Happy Valley farm in Semley on the Dorset/Wiltshire border.

Nick and Jane launched their website on January 12 after months of preparation.

Produce is available nationwide as single cuts or in a range of meat boxes and is hand-prepared by the Blackmore Vale Butchery in West Stour, north Dorset, which was awarded ‘Best Butcher‘ at the 2017 Taste of Dorset Awards.

Shoppers can choose from hampers such as the 'breakfast box' and the 'student survival meat box', and can also set up a regular delivery service.
