It’s official – summer has arrived at YO! Sushi.

The popular restaurant chain unveiled a new menu earlier this week and has added 15 fresh street food dishes to its canon.

You might also notice they’ve dropped the word ‘sushi’ from the signage outside the restaurant and its menu in a bid to show it has so much more to offer.

Gone are the drawings next to each dish on the menu, too, so you no longer run the risk of accidentally picking up the wrong plate from the conveyor belt.

The new menu delivers more meat and seafood options including the likes of Tender Pork Teriyaki and Soft Soy Egg, Sweet and Sour Cod Nanbanzuke, Osaka-Style Squid and Crispy Chicken Karaage.

The Chicken Katsu Sando is inspired by the staple snack of street vendors and food carts across Japan’s network of Bullet Trains. It's a chicken thigh coated in panko crumb, covered in tonkatsu sauce, served between two slices of white bread and finished off with a spread of Japanese mustard. Sure, it's just a sandwich but it’s already something of a hit in the Manhattan restaurant and sure to follow suit here.

As a fan of their Spicy Pepper Squid, the Osaka-Style Squid fails to live up to expectation. A visually impressive dish topped with bonito flakes (dried and smoked shavings of skipjack tuna), it felt over-embellished, with one fellow diner complaining the dish was too salty for her to finish.

However, the Sweet and Sour Cod Nanbanzuke is the star of the new menu. Light and moreish, it comprises of fresh pieces of cod fried until crisp and dipped in a tangy Nanban sauce. Delicious. With clean plates all around, it was clear this was the real winner.

While the Fruity Beef Katsu is a must for carnivores. Full of flavour, it sees minced beef in a crispy panko coating that’s fried until golden then topped with fruity tonkatsu sauce.

The Tokyo Banana Cake is the perfect way to finish off a meal. Traditionally presented as a gift in Japan, it boasts fresh cream swirled into a delicate banana sponge topped with chocolate. The sponge is beautifully light and perfect for summer.
