IT was a miserable wet and windy Sunday night when we decided to drop in at Bellaggio Pizzeria in Winton for an evening meal.

On entering the restaurant we were given a friendly welcome from the manager. We didn’t have a booking and were surprised at just how busy the restaurant was, but the staff still rustled up a table for us.

The decor is modern with plenty of exposed brickwork and wood but still maintains a warm and intimate atmosphere.

The menu was varied and reasonably priced. We opted for two garlic bread starters (£3.95 each) to share, one with pepperoni and another with spinach. These were cooked perfectly and were probably a lot larger than we expected for starters. On reflection one starter between us probably would have been enough.

Although there are pasta and other traditional Italian dishes (lasagne, risotto etc) on the menu we both opted for pizzas as our main course.

I choose the diavola (£6.95) with pepperoni and chilli toppings. My partner had the house special Bellagio pizza containing fresh tomato, rocket, parma ham and parmesan shavings. Both pizzas were puffed up, golden and crispy whilst remaining moist. They were also generously-sized with liberal amounts of toppings. We both agreed they were excellent.

Due to the size of the two courses we were unable to take on any dessert offerings.

It’s easy to see why this place is so busy. Friendly service combined with wallet-friendly prices for a high standard of food makes this a great place to visit.

The pleasant atmosphere and attractive decor really do make this restaurant a venue for all occasions.
