The Saturdays singer Mollie King has promised to put her all into her performances on Strictly Come Dancing 2017.

The 30-year-old became the first celebrity contestant to be named for this year’s line-up, appearing live on Nick Grimshaw’s Radio 1 breakfast show on Monday.

She told listeners: “It’s something that I’ve always said I wanted to do. I’ve always watched it with my family and it looked so fun.

“I’m going to give it my all. I’m very competitive so watch out, contestants.”

The British singer said she had been keeping the news a close secret, telling only her close family and bandmate, Frankie Bridge, who also starred in the BBC show in 2014.

“Frankie is the only other (The Saturdays) singer I’ve told,” she said. “She was so excited. She was driving when I told her and she had to pull over.”

King told how she pleaded for a chance to take part in the show.

After finding out she had made the line-up, she told the BBC: “I can’t actually believe I’m lucky enough to be taking part in it this year.

“I’m literally so excited to learn latin and ballroom dancing, and of course I can’t wait to get into the sequins too.

“It’s going to be a lot of hard work but I’m ready for the challenge.
