The iconic Coronation Street cobbles appear to have been ripped up after shocking photos of the set were posted on Twitter.

Fans have nothing to fear, however, as the photos were of the long-running ITV soap’s former set.

The cobbles are believed to have been removed by bulldozers from the old home of the programme at Granada studios in Manchester.

The soap moved from its Manchester base to the new home at MediaCityUK in Salford Quays in 2013.

The pictures were revealed by fans podcast Conversation Street with plenty of Twitter users aghast at the old set’s transformation.

However, one user thinks he knows where the cobbles have been taken.

A set extension would make sense with the soap to extend to six episodes a week next year.
