Tom Hiddleston’s thriller The Night Manager and Suranne Jones’s hit Doctor Foster will battle it out for Best New Drama at the TVChoice Awards.

Marcella, starring Anna Friel, and War And Peace, starring James Norton, are also on the shortlist for the prize, which will be awarded at a ceremony in London in September.

In the Best Drama category, ITV’s Downton Abbey is up against a tough trio of BBC opponents – Happy Valley, Line Of Duty and Peaky Blinders.

The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing will be fighting for the Best Talent Show trophy alongside Britain’s Got Talent and Great British Bake Off.

Bradley Walsh’s hit quiz The Chase is up against Loose Women, Pointless and This Morning for Best Daytime Show.

In the soap categories, Emmerdale has two nominations for Best Newcomer – one for Gemma Atkinson who plays feisty Carly Hope and one for Isobel Steele, who plays Liv Flaherty.

They are taking on Riley Carter Millington, who plays Kyle Slater in Albert Square, and former X Factor winner Shayne Ward, who got a nod for his role as Aidan Connor in Coronation Street.

Jon Peake, editor-in-chief of TVChoice and Total TV Guide, said: “This will be our 20th awards ceremony, and we are thrilled by the support we’ve had over the years from Britain’s biggest stars.

The ceremony, which is being hosted by Jo Brand for the second time, will be held at The Dorchester on September 5.

More than 200,000 readers took part in the first round of voting. Viewers have until Friday July 8 to cast their votes at www.tvchoicemagazine.co.uk.
