Disney’s hit film Frozen is getting a stage makeover.

After being teased for a while, Disney have confirmed that the musical version will arrive on Broadway in 2018.

Music and lyrics for the theatrical extravaganza will be written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the genius composing duo behind the hit Let It Go, which won the Oscar for best original song.

The creative team also includes writer Jennifer Lee, who penned the original film, director and two-time Tony nominee Alex Timbers, who’s worked before on Here Lies Love and The Pee-Wee Herman Show, and choreographer Peter Darling, who won a Tony for Billy Elliot and is the man behind the moves in current show Matilda.

Before it arrives on Broadway to join shows such as Aladdin and The Lion King, it will play at an out-of-town theatre.

The 2013 film told the story of a princess who sets out to find her estranged sister, who has frozen their kingdom in an eternal winter. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale The Snow Queen, it featured the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel as sisters Anna and Elsa.

Casting is yet to be announced, but Idina Menzel said last year that she would “absolutely” love to reprise the role so perhaps she’ll do it on stage.

If you can’t make it to Broadway, Disney confirmed that a sequel to the film is in the works too.
