Mike Tindall had to be airlifted to hospital when he cracked his head open during Bear Grylls: Mission Survive.

The rugby star, who is married to Zara Phillips, got hit in the head by a tree branch during the adventure through the Costa Rican rainforest and presenter Bear has admitted that he felt nervous about what the Queen might have to say about her granddaughter’s husband being injured.

He told The Sun: “I was a little bit nervous that I might get beheaded!”

Talking about Mike’s injury, he added: “He got hit on the head pretty hard and gashed his forehead with wood, but he just wanted to get back to the jungle and get on with it.

“He was in hospital for half an hour and had stitches. They warned him it wasn’t going to be pretty and that he’d probably have a scar. We said he could be extracted and have it looked at properly.

“But he goes, ‘No, no, do it and get me back in the jungle. He even refused to have a pee in the loo in hospital, he was like, ‘No, I’ll go outside’. So he had a pee in the bushes.”

Bear said of the ITV show contestant’s royal connections: “It’s quite cool making a show and thinking, ‘This is one that the Queen will be watching’. I haven’t really had that before and I tell you what, Mike will really do her proud – that’s for sure.”
