ENJOY music and some stirring speeches at the Tolpuddle Martyrs’ Festival this weekend.

Former Beautiful South singers Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott will be performing at the three day event along with The Men They Couldn’t Hang and Lazibyrd.

Tributes to festival stalwart Tony Benn, who passed away earlier this year, are expected from MPs Dawn Primarolo and Kerry McCarthy, and from his granddaughter Emily Benn.

Giving speeches are TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady and TUC president Mohammad Taj.

The festival starts on Friday and runs until Sunday, when admission is free and the unions parade takes place through the village. Visitors on Friday and Saturday do have to pay. See tolpuddlemartyrs.org.uk for details.

  • A FESTIVAL ‘a million years in the making’ comes to Portland this weekend.

The Jurassic Rocks Music Festival is at The Grove Playing Fields, Incline Road, on Saturday from 9am to 11pm.

The Wurzels are headlining the event, which features three different stages.

Also performing are the Skimmity Hitchers, Guns of Navarone and Devil’s Rejects.

  • CRANE your neck for a spectacular soaring display by the Red Arrows at Lyme Regis Lifeboat Week.

The fundraiser, now in its 41st year, begins tomorrow and runs until July 26.

There’s something for everyone, from mouse racing to a display from the Falcons parachute team.

On Thursday the Red Arrows will arrive in the town at about 6pm.

Friday’s programme includes the grand duck race and ends with a fireworks display.

The 48-page Lifeboat Week programme, with full information and timings of all events is now available at the lifeboat shop at the harbour and throughout Lyme Regis and Charmouth.

  • COOL down by enjoying a charity screening of children’s movie Frozen at the Odeon Dorchester today at 4.30pm.

Relive the icy adventures of Elsa and Anna and help raise money for Dorset children’s hospice Julia’s House.

Tickets cost £3.50 and a raffle to win Frozen prizes will also be held. l DECIDE which is the scariest scarecrow at Piddlehinton Church Fete tomorrow.

It is held in the grounds of The Old Rectory, Piddlehinton, from 2pm and there will be a hog roast and BBQ from 7pm.

For the children there will be a bouncy castle, ice creams, children’s races, pony rides. Also there will be a dog show and a scarecrow sompetition, both to be judged and rosettes awarded.

Admission is £1 for adults and children under 16 go free.

  • ENJOY a cream tea on the lawn of All Saints Church, Wyke Regis from 3pm on Sunday.

Brass ensemble Brass Tacks will be performing and there will also be a unique arts and crafts stall.
