Funnyman Lee Mack brings his cheeky northern charm to Bournemouth this month.

The multi-talented comic has turned his hand to writing, acting and become a panel show favourite with his quick-fire gags and banter.

His hunger to entertain is infectious and he is on a high after it was announced his award-winning self-penned hit sitcom Not Going Out will be returning for a seventh series this year.

His double-act with one-liner king Tim Vine has been a rare mainstream success in an era of ever edgier comedy.

He is by no means old fashioned, but his humour is intelligent, under-pinned by natural quick-wittedness and doesn't resort to the fashionable shock tactics of many.

His appeal is not restricted to any one group and those in the crowds at his gigs span a wide demographic.

Not Going Out has now been sold to 120 countries.

The unlikely chemistry between Lee and faux adversary David Mitchell on BBC favourite Would I Lie To You? has also propelled him into the consciousness of living rooms around the country.

He has frequently appeared on Have I Got News for You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Live at The Apollo, QI, Jonathan Ross and The Royal Variety.

However, he is no overnight sensation, emerging from a broken home in Lancashire and slogging away on the open mic scene before regularly hitting television screens for the first time at the start of the last decade.

He worked in a bingo hall and later as a blue coat for Pontins before studying for a degree in film and television at Brunel University.

His big break came in 1995 when he won So You Think You’re Funny at the 1995 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

When Lee arrives at the BIC he will be going back to those stand-up roots.

He is at his best and most natural when it is just him, a microphone and an audience.

The show is part of his tour Hit the Road Mack which will, remarkably, be his first major outing on the stand-up circuit in four years.

With his near constant presence on our screens since then audiences can expect him to have built up a stock of new material and be as sharp as ever.

Back in 2010 when Lee toured the country with his twice extended schedule, Going Out, his shows were a sell-out. This followed on from his highly successful 2006 tour which was nominated for Best Live Stand Up Tour at the 2006 British Comedy Awards.

This coincided with the release of his first live DVD – Lee Mack Live. His second live DVD, Going Out, was released in 2010.

He has come a long way since his humble beginnings in Southport, marrying Tara in 2005 and settling in Surrey with their three children.

He has reached a stage in his life where it would appear easy to take a step back, but his relentless energy keeps him going and the crowds in the Windsor Hall will be in for treat.
