Zippo’s Circus presents Phoenix Canford Arena IT is not usual for a clown to own a circus but Martin Burton is the famous clown Zippo and his circus is now the leading British show on tour.
So successful is it that Zippo has launched a second outfit called Phoenix which ends its run at Canford Arena tonight (WED). The show includes the incredible Zulu Warriors from Kenya in their non-stop limbo and hoop-diving display. Sensational juggling skills by the award-winning Gordon Marquez from Mexico contrast with the Chinese juggler who does it with large ceramic jars.
High up in the big top, Zula from Mongolia balances on a tower of chairs and the Great Heraldo swings on the trapeze. Other acts include the hip-shaking hula hoops of Slavi from Russia, gold medallist and Britain’s Got Talent contestant Julia Makarova with her aerial skills and contortionists Jennifer Keith and Jessica Green tie themselves in knots.
Zippo, being a clown, knows how important is laughter and Phoenix and two of the funniest augustes, Beau and Fips who get immersed in gallons of gunge in their version of Can’t Cook, Won’t Cook.
This is a superb show and a pity it is here for so short a time.
