THE BUDAPEST CAFE ORCHESTRA
Corn Exchange, Dorchester
Making a welcome return to the area, the four musicians that comprise the Haringey-based group were on top form as usual for their latest visit to Dorset which unsurprisingly attracted a packed house attracting an audience who came to hear a selection of music from classic to jazz and folk to gypsy, all performed with astonishing skill and enthusiasm
Leading the way is Chris Garrick, a remarkable violinist whose spontaneity and gentle wit is nicely augmented by the astonishingly talented Eddie Hession whose performance on the accordion is second to none.
The group swing effortlessly from traditional Hungarian and Greek folk tunes to symphonic Rachmaninov and from popular film music to plaintive Scottish songs, all performed in their own inimitable style that is of the highest quality but never takes itself too seriously.
Original and with a lightness of touch that belies their professionalism and dedication to creating exciting new sounds, the four men make music that is delightfully different and a privilege to enjoy.
They aim to return to Dorset soon under the auspices of Artsreach, definitely a date to look out for.
