HE may be one of British music’s biggest stars, but there’s something about Olly Murs which makes him thoroughly likeable.

It takes a certain type of performer to hold several thousand people in the palm of his hand without any fancy sets, numerous costume changes or special effects, but he manages it for 90-odd minutes.

He’s already proved he can sing – it’s what brought him to our attention on X Factor eight (yes, eight!) years ago.

But he’s also got some pretty smooth moves, manages to be confident without being too cocky, and is a real charmer to boot – addressing all the ‘gorgeous ladies’ at the BIC, and even letting some give him a bit of a grope.

Following the release of his latest album, 24 HRS, the show of the same name features most of the record’s tunes, including You Don’t Know Love, Grow Up, Unpredictable and Back Around as well as some old favourites such as Troublemaker, Wrapped Up, Dear Darlin and Heart Skips a Beat.

Murs is probably best known for his upbeat floor fillers, but proved he can hold his own with a heartfelt ballad too, with his vocals impeccable on Flaws.

It’s been four years since he was last in Bournemouth, but he certainly made up for lost time.

‘Forget it’s a Tuesday,” he told us ‘pretend it’s a Saturday’, and the hoards of fans – from youngsters at their first concert right through to teenagers, mums and grandparents – readily complied.

While the show’s tempo was a bit up and down a bit for the first half, the last hour or so was much more of a party, with the crowd on the feet as he performed a medley of tunes through the ages, with a couple of 70s and 90s classics, finishing with a rendition of Can’t Stop The Feeling.

Just like his last tour in 2015, last night’s show was a sell-out, but Murs will be back in Bournemouth in the summer.

If you don’t have a ticket yet – you may want to get one. He puts on one hell of a show.
