YOU don’t expect a down-to-earth bloke dressed in jeans and a hoody to levitate.

Watching Dynamo, it’s a struggle to be cynical, even when the laws of physics seem to fly out the window before your very eyes.

The Bradford-born man may not have the glitzy showmanship of a more conventional magician - but that’s what makes his magic all the more credible. Illusions were interspersed with glimpses into Dynamo’s – real name Steven Frayne – estate upbringing, which showed just how much hard work went into developing his slick sleight of hand.

But that was the only secret divulged – a magician never reveals his tricks, remember.

Fans of the 33-year-old’s television show will already know he specialises in either close-up street magic (often involving mobile phones) or awe-inspiring stunts: walking on water and strolling down the sides of buildings.

In what is his first live tour, it was difficult to predict how he would bring his style of magic to the stage. Without spoiling the surprises, it is safe to say Dynamo dropped every jaw by reading minds, materialising across the room and manipulating gravity, among other feats.

Minds may have been blown well before the interval, but the biggest gasps were heard towards the end of the show as several unwitting audience members participated in an odds-defying finale.

Murmurs of ‘how on earth did he do that?’ could just be heard above the sound of applause.
