FOR the lucky ticket winners, singer-songwriter James Morrison delivered a master class in soulful, heartfelt pop. The free concert was hosted by Wave 105 DJ Simon Clarke and showcased the live music capabilities of the recently opened Canvas on Poole Hill.

Before James Morrison took to the stage, the crowd were enthralled by talented Southampton singer Just Millie while others enjoyed a cocktail in the stylish and contemporary bar area. Strolling on stage with just an acoustic guitar, James embraced the intimate setting by chatting to the 200 strong crowd before launching into his set.

Opening with powerful new track Demons from his latest album, Higher Than Here. The 2007 Brit Award Winner was soon joined by two band members and deftly built a steady momentum.

It wasn’t long before the Bournemouth audience were singing along to favourites such as You Give Me Something and Wonderful World, before the show came to a gentle conclusion. Judging from the beaming smiles around the room, everyone went home happy at having witnessed something special.

Canvas works beautifully as a bar and tonight proves it's also an excellent live venue where prominent artists can perform. The stage is now set for James Morrison’s return later this month when he plays the O2 Academy Bournemouth on November 23.
