THIS summer will see the original members of the Grateful Dead reunite for three final shows in Chicago – so what better time than now to release a two-disc collection to mark the band’s 50th anniversary.

The 32 tracks on The Best of the Grateful Dead run in chronological order, from The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion), the first song on their 1967 self-titled debut album, to Standing on the Moon, from 1989’s Built to Last.

For all ‘Deadheads’, the name given to fans of the American group, this compilation will bring the memories of their idols’ own unique mix of psychedelia, bluegrass and folk rock flooding back.

Despite selling more than 30 million albums worldwide, it’s perhaps surprising that the Grateful Dead only had one hit single, Touch of Grey, and you have to wait until midway through disc two for that.

However, chart success is not something Deadheads will be worrying about when they enjoy this collection of Jerry Garcia and the gang’s greatest work.
