I have been waiting for the right time to introduce my two daughters to my love of ballet, and this production of Swan Lake was perfect.

The classic ballet is the latest to be recreated especially for young children, following other favourites such as Sleeping Beauty and Coppelia, in this wonderful collaboration between English National Ballet and the English National Ballet School.

Performed by second year students to Tchaikovsky's magical score, the shortened performance includes a narrator to tell the story, but still includes all the best bits - including that mesmerising series of fouetté turns by the black swan, Odile, in act two, and the Dance of the Cygnets in act one.

This brilliant idea is perfect to introduce younger children, as well as their parents, to classical ballet and the show was an absolute treat.

Simply stunning performances by the students, combined with clever set design and beautiful costumes all helped to create the magical love story of a girl who is turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer, only to be saved by true love.

The dancers kept the young audience enthralled throughout and it was fantastic to have English National Ballet's presence in our local theatre.
