IF you want to get your adrenaline pumping without leaving your cinema seat, then catch the annual Adventure Film Festival, now in its tenth year.

There are three different programmes running throughout January and February, featuring 11 of the world’s most extreme action and adventure documentaries filmed at 30 locations around the globe.

We saw six short films in two hours ranging from snowboarding in Antartica and free climbing and cycling in California to mountain biking in Afghanistan’s Wakhan Corridor.

One of my favourite films featured two guys travelling to the source of the River Karun in Iran, which was fast-moving, varied, and provided a valuable insight into the hospitable nature of the Iranian people.

Some of the films were far too long though – particularly cold water surfing in Alaska – and as I was with my daughter, it would have been good to see some female role models too as it was all boys’ own stuff.

But the cinematography was often breath-taking and to know pioneering modern day explorers such as free climber Alex Honnold and boarder Xavier De Le Rue, can still push the boundaries beyond what was previously thought possible, was truly inspirational.
