Marmozets
The Weird and Wonderful

If you like your rock music shouty and full of energy then the Marmozets are for you.

Already tipped for the top, the debut album from the two sets of siblings from Yorkshire, is self-assured and infectious.

The band comprises Becca MacIntyre on vocals, her siblings Sam and Josh on guitar and drums, as well as Jack and Will Bottomley on guitar and bass.

They have already appeared on Radio 1 Rocks, at Download festival and the Vans Warped Tour. But the real question is – with all this hype, are they any good?

Simply put, yes.

Their debut album, The Weird and Wonderful Marmozets, is an energetic, angry, joy. The band clearly have something to say and they aren’t afraid to say it loudly.

Becca has a great voice, equally capable to shout and scream with the best of the rock/punk community, but also of toning it down.

Tracks Cry and Captivate You really showcase the delicate side to her voice, while she is at her shouty best on tracks Born Young and Free, Why do you Hate Me? and Move, Shake, Hide.

The strong choruses and guitars throughout the album make the whole project feel connected and the band find a perfect balance of anger, energy and Becca’s strong vocals on Hit the Wave.

Again Particle showcases the band’s ability to balance strong melodies and explosive energy and rein it in just enough to create a song with a theatrical edge, without it becoming complacent or staid.

Of the 13 tracks, 12 are great. The low point for me was Cover Up. At other points on the album the repetition of lyrics works very well, including Is it Horrible?, but sadly Cover Up came across as too disjointed.

The whole album feels complete and well rounded and like nothing to have hit British rock/punk in a while.

The band’s catchy and infectious energy will have you bouncing along in no time – a hugely enjoyable debut. Believe the hype, rock fans.
