One of the greatest female vocalists of the past 25 years, the 47-year-old singer’s glorious pipes are as affecting as ever on these 12 tracks, produced by John Reynolds.
Since the glory days of Mandinka and her global smash Nothing Compares To U, written by Prince, the Irish-born star has followed her own esoteric musical path, sometimes to her commercial detriment.
But with songs as good as How About I Be Me, Kisses Like Mine, and James Brown, recorded with Afrobeat superstar Seun Kuti, she is back in business with a bang – and for that, all music lovers should be truly grateful.
This is arguably her finest album to date, and a real show of female empowerment.
