BUDDING young musicians are hoping to strike a chord with world class jazz performers when they take part in a new youth event at Bournemouth University this Friday.

The musical showcase is an opportunity to put young performers in the spotlight and has been organised as part of this year’s Jazz By The Sea Festival.

Those taking part will also have the opportunity to win a spot to perform at the Jazz by the Sea Festival which takes place from June 11 to 17 by taking part in one of the festival’s main events which will be held at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts.

Organiser Gerry Clarke said: “The Jazz by the Sea musical showcase for young musicians is open to everyone from soloists, duos, small ensembles up to big bands.

“Musicians performing on the night will have the opportunity to be judged by professional jazz musicians whilst performing in the Bournemouth University Kimmeridge Theatre at 7pm.”

There are still spots available for young musicians to perform on the night. Performers who would like to be involved in the event are invited to contact Alex Wills, JBTSF Youth Coordinator either by email at alexicon4@yahoo.com or call 07507 809622.

Jazz by the Sea, formerly known as the Bournemouth Jazz Festival, aims to bring world class jazz musicians to Dorset and takes place at multiple venues across Poole and Bournemouth.

A range of events will take place in music venues, pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, shopping centres and retail outlets throughout the week.

New to this year, is the launch of the new Jazzmobile, a mobile stage showcasing jazz musicians on the move. For more details, see jazzbytheseafestival.co.uk.
