AN ACOUSTIC folk duo who are bidding to reach Christmas number one have today joined forces with a leading cancer charity in the hope of raising £10,000 over the festive period.

I am the Cold Man declared earlier this month that they wanted to "put the Christmas back into Christmas number one" with their new single 'Christmas Dreams' which was officially released today and has already been viewed over 13,000 times on social media.

Now the band, who met whilst studying for a masters in Radio Production at Bournemouth University, have announced that one of their supporters has pledged to donate £1 for every download the single receives* to Prevent Breast Cancer.

Band member Michael Dale said: "We are so grateful for everyone who has already pre ordered the song and the thousands of people who have watched the video.

"We really hope that by teaming up with Prevent Breast Cancer we can help raise money for the amazing work they do whilst also getting a festive song back to the chart summit where it belongs."

Tom Harrison, who performs vocals, piano and trumpet, said: “Back in the mid to late 1980s there was always a Christmas-themed song at number one. But since Band Aid in 2004 we haven’t had one, and we want to change that.

“The fact that we can take on the pop establishment whilst also supporting a worthy cause is fantastic.

“Christmas is all about giving and so we are encouraging as many people as possible to download our song and help make a difference.”

Prevent Breast Cancer, formerly known as Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention, is the UK’s only charity dedicated entirely to the prediction and prevention of breast cancer.

Nikki Barraclough, executive director of Prevent Breast Cancer, said: “We’re thrilled to learn that one of our supporters has pledged to raise up to £10,000 for the charity.

“It’s incredibly generous and fantastic to know that everyone adding the single to their Christmas playlist is doing so for a good cause.

“Our research is funded solely through donations and, in order to achieve our ultimate goal of preventing breast cancer, we need a great deal of support from members of the public.”

‘Christmas Dreams’ was officially released this morning on Itunes, Spotify, Amazon music, Apple music and various other music platforms.
