DEDICATED followers of fashion can look forward to a night featuring former members of one of the biggest bands of the 1960s.

The Kast Off Kinks will be playing at Christchurch’s Regent theatre on Saturday, September 19 with original Kinks drummer, Mick Avory, keeping the rhythm.

John Dalton, who performed with The Kinks during the 1970s and 1980s, will be on bass and vocals while, Ian Gibbons, who joined the Kinks in the 80s and 90s and still tours with Ray Davies today, is on keyboards and vocals.

They are joined on guitar and vocals by Dave Clarke who has played with a host of 1960s stars including The Beach Boys, Noel Redding of the Jimi Hendrix Experience & Tim Rose.

The Kinks were one of the most influential Pop and Rock bands of the 1960s and scored many hits including Dedicated Follower of Fashion, Waterloo Sunset, Sunday Afternoon and You Really Got Me.

The Kinks are often cited as one of the most important and influential rock bands of all time. Their first hit, You Really Got Me, in 1964, broke new ground with driving power chords and Dave Davies’ distorted guitar sounds, and created a template for many bands to follow in a rock and roll development which led variously to heavy metal, new wave, grunge and Britpop.

Later work saw the band’s style change to more melodic songs, highlighting Ray Davies’ lyrical and observational skills in songs like Sunny Afternoon, Dead End Street and Waterloo Sunset.

They will be performing at the High Street venue from 7.30pm.
