LAST year’s family folk festival on Poole Quay was enjoyed by thousands of visitors over the two days of free music. Now organisers are hoping to repeat that rip-roaring success with this year’s Folk on the Quay on June 27 and 28.

The event sponsored by Volvo Cars Poole will transform the quayside into an arena dedicated to the best live folk music and dance in the UK and beyond, with plenty of chances to join in. There will be four outdoor stages for international musicians and the cream of the local folk scene to perform their sets, with more than 20 music acts entertaining the crowds. Not to mention two ceilidh dances and over twenty morris dancing teams.

Developed by Poole Tourism, working with folk music event organisers Paul and Catherine Burke, the event is supported by Poole Quay businesses, with live music fringe events at many of the Quay’s traditional pubs, bars and restaurants throughout the day and on into the night.

One of the many musical highlights is Montreal-based singer-songwriter Sarah Jane Scouten performing on the Thistle Main Stage in Poole as part of her UK tour. She will be performing tracks from her critically acclaimed album The Cape which was nominated for Traditional Album Of The Year alongside Traditional Singer of the Year, at the Canadian Folk Music Awards 2014.

Based in Montreal, Sarah Jane became the leader of one of the finest folk acts in the city, as she put together her string band.

Her music is influenced by the sounds of Lucinda Williams, Iris DeMent, Old Crow Medicine Show and a wealth of old-time and bluegrass music.

Sarah Jane Scouten will be performing on the Thistle Main Stage in Poole on Saturday, June 27 from 3-3.45pm.
