IT'S set to be the biggest party Southampton city centre will have seen in years - and tickets are still on sale.

Organisers hope to see tens of thousands of people arrive for Common People where two of the music industry’s biggest names will headline.

Supported by a number of rising stars as well as local artists, thousands of people are set to head to Southampton Common this weekend for two days of musical entertainment.

Organised by the man behind the Isle of Wight’s Bestival festival and Camp Bestival in Dorset, music fans still have the chance to join their friends in Southampton Common to see some of their favourite new musical artists.

But while sales are going strong for this weekend, punters will still be able to buy tickets on Saturday or Sunday morning when the box office opens at 9.30am.

A spokesman for the event said: “Tickets sales are brisk at the moment, we’re doing very well. There will be tickets on sale in the morning and they will be available to buy over the coming days.

“Last week there was a spike in the tickets and there over the weekend but we’re expecting to see them go over the coming days.”

It is the first festival seen in the city since the Power in the Park concerts and last summer was the scene of the first Let’s Rock event starring musical icons of the 1980s.

Around 20,000 party-goers are expected to flock to the city centre park when the gates open at 10.30am.

Former Radio 1 DJ and organiser Rob da Bank said he wants the festival – which will see acts playing from noon to 11pm – to “make Southampton proud”.

Megastar DJ Fatboy Slim will grace the stage on the Saturday night performing tunes from his latest album as well as some of his much-loved hits.

Also known as Norman Cook, Fatboy Slim’s number-one selling album You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby in the 1990s spawned several hit singles.

The next night will see one of the most recognisable singers in the world, Grace Jones, headline on the Sunday night.

Jones was initially a model before moving into music in the mid-1970s.

She reached stardom in the 1980s with albums Slave to the Rhythm and Island Life, and appeared in movies Conan the Destroyer, A View to a Kill, and Straight to Hell.

She will be joined by buzz band Years & Years, who won the BBC Sound of 2015 poll, and have tasted success with their single King.
