ONE of the Emerald Isle’s finest exports will be bringing its unique blend of gritty soul music and irresistible Irish charm to the Regent Centre in Christchurch next month.

The Stars from the Commitments will be performing all the hits from the multi-million selling soundtrack albums and the Golden Globe and BAFTA award-winning film of The Commitments (1991).

Among the many memorable hits will be Mustang Sally, Chain of Fools, Take Me to the River, Try a Little Tenderness, Nowhere to Run, In the Midnight Hour, Get Ready, I Can’t Stand the Rain, Hold on I’m Coming and Land of a Thousand Dances.

This nine-piece soul band from Dublin, has performed more than 1,500 shows world-wide to hundreds of thousands of people at festivals, clubs, theatres, corporate events and VIP parties.

The show features members of the original film cast including Kenneth McCluskey aka Derek ‘The Meatman’ Scully, Dick Massey aka Billy ‘The Animal’ Mooney plus Myles Hyland on lead vocals. The band has often been called on to back iconic soul legends over the years such as BB King, Sam Moore, Steve Cropper, Denis Edwards of the Temptations, the late James Brown and Wilson Pickett.

They were even the special guests at the White House for a special St Patrick’s Day party in 2005 for President George W Bush and the Irish Prime Minister, Bertie Ahern.
