BY the start of last year, Bournemouth’s Drew Allen knew his life was about to change. To what extent, he had no idea, which was probably just as well.

The young singer songwriter is at the sharp end of a folk revival and causing a stir on the UK live circuit. Armed with a guitar and a harmonica, Drew’s smart lyrics and stripped down guitar sound are rewarding him with a growing fan base.

Tomorrow night sees Drew make his debut at the Purbeck Folk Festival with a headline slot at 8.55pm on the Fire Stage. He will return with a sold-out show at Mr Kyps in Poole on August 30.

Last year, Drew left a career with supercar manufacturer McClaren and moved back to his hometown of Bournemouth to focus solely on music. Since his return, Drew's song-writing has been prolific and his debut album, Sydney Afternoon has won him universal praise.

“I'm driven to make music. I can't do anything else. The album’s out, but I've only scratched the surface,” he says.

Drew’s explosive live performances and compelling music has attracted an international fan base.

“I've had some incredible feedback from American listeners since the air play, it's really exciting for me.

“I always want to keep moving, keep writing, keep releasing, but it's starting to look like the first album still has a lot to give. Though, I’m keen on releasing some of the new material this summer.”
