After the bleak-but-brilliant Walking Dead and downright morose-but-compelling Wolf Among Us, Tales from Borderlands was a tremendous change of pace for Telltale's format.

The first-person-shooter Borderlands series is a fully-paid-up member of a small band of titles that can boast a script of film quality, and Telltale's five-parter upheld this tradition.

This, the final episode, nicely ties up its myriad threads, shot to ribbons over the course of the previous four, and boasts a quality reveal as the identity of Rhys and Fiona's overly inquisitive kidnapper is laid bare. And those who hadn't worked it out will be kicking themselves for missing the giant clue that should have given the game away.

And just when you think the episode is petering out to a soft miaow of an ending, the whole thing cranks up twenty or so gears and throws out a terrific climax.

It's a shame Tales had to end at five parts but, given its critical success and last scene, it makes perfect sense that we'll be back among its particular brand of scum and villainy before too long.
