The Saints Row series enjoys a reputation of being Grand Theft Auto on every recreational drug going, and for good reason.

We’ve already tasted the madness of Re-elected on previous-gen consoles (highlighted by its brief but hilarious wholesome 1950s America pastiche) but here we are spiffed up a little for PS4 and Xbox One, and with a shiny DLC thrown in for extra measure by the name of Gat out of Hell.

With Re-elected’s mind-warping alien-invasion plot freshly dispatched, GooH finds the President (with all his Re-elected customisations handily intact) crudely dispatched below ground by Satan, who’d very much like him as a son-in-law.

So off pops Johnny Gat, accompanied by useful boffin Kinzie Kensington, down into the cosy bowels of Hades.

It’s more of the same silliness, which fans won’t be disappointed to hear, and Gat’s newfound abilities to fly greatly plump up the environmental navigation. The Saints Row script has always been solid, and the subject matter here allows for some fine character banter.

No one does elaborate weaponry like Saints Row, and the Armchairmageddon is up there with its finest – comfy furniture with a pair of howling Gatling guns slapped to either side. It’s a touch ropey on rocky environments but she's a peach on the kitchen floor.

Create enough wrath to peak Satan’s interest and the Infernal One pops out for a chat and fisticuffs, but thanks to some lovely gifts from your newfound chums of the underworld – Shakespeare, Blackbeard, Vlad the Impaler and the DeWynter Twins – one’s armoury isn’t without impact.

The one downside to GooH is its length. Gat and Kinzie spend pretty much an afternoon pottering about among the demons, and you won’t be playing too much longer than this before the deal is done.

Shame really, because it’s a damned good wheeze.
