Great, this'll be just like Forza, only on PlayStation, yes?

No.

No it is not.

But it is pretty. The cars are pretty, the tracks are pretty... pretty, pretty, pretty.

And it drives well. Racing is tight, the AI drivers are a bunch of morons and the social driving aspect is fine. When the servers are up to the strain, which is hardly ever lately.

But it feels like there's something missing. Heart? Personality? One of those things. Maybe both, but there's a big chunk of something gone AWOL.

The clubs are great, though, if you've got half a dozen mates with the same game and time to spend together pounding other clubs' race times into the dirt. If this is the case then it's all worth it.

The single-player routine suffers from some brutal AI drivers keen to smash your bum off the road, and with no rewind mechanism in place every little mistake is punished.

Just like real-life I suppose, but if I wanted reality I wouldn't be playing games.

There's nothing wrong with Driveclub but there's nothing screaming in my face why this is the next big driving game, and I'm pretty sure that's what Sony want you to think it is.

Out on PS4
