I've heard some silly plots in my time but Sacred 3 pulls silly's underpants over its head and pushes its face into a pudding.

The heart of something is in some kind of bother, so some pretty ladies gather the land's warriors to save it because the eternally peeved Zane has nefarious plans for it.

To be fair, Sacred 3 doesn't take itself especially seriously, laden as it is with a daft voice-over and lightly humorous script. It's not hilarious but it's jolly enough to forgive the loopy story.

Coming across as an RPG initially, S3 surprises by offering an isometric (ish) hack-and-slash number. Took me right back to classic arcade games of the '90s, so it did.

Which works in its favour. There's no pretence here; we're back to basic gaming and to hell with everything else.

You won't find buckets of depth, months of gameplay or anything like open-world exploration. You will find a reasonable multiplayer option for offline chums and online weirdos.

Its simplicity doesn't excuse Sacred 3's price, offered as it is for a fullsome £35, but if you're after an old-school no-frills multiplayer button masher, this'll do.
