THE Manchester-based four-piece are back with the long-awaited follow-up to 2010’s Mercury Prize-nominated debut Man Alive.
The alt-pop outfit’s latest offering, Arc, has the same electro sensibilities as their debut but with a more complex maths-rock structuring. Opening track Cough Cough, already released as a single last year, is a sweeping indie-tech delight with passionate hooks and a surprisingly attractive hip-hop influence.
The album as a whole, however, appears to have buckled under the weight of its own expectations.
Torso Of The Week appears self-indulgent and borders on the annoying with overly sentimental vocals.
Nevertheless, The Peaks and Radiant balance the good from the bad with closing track Don’t Try satisfying the length of the wait.
