AS sure as Aston Merrygold will do a backflip on stage, JLS are still going to be riding high in the charts.

JB Gill, Marvin Humes, Aston Merrygold and Oritse Williams have moved away from their brand of boyband pop to unleash their most R&B album to date.

From the opening beats of tongue-in-cheek Dessert, with its cheeky sample of Silk’s Freak Me, and top 10 single Hottest Girl In The World, Evolution sees the former X Factor finalists show off their impressive falsettos more than before and a different sound successfully as they channel the likes of Justin Timberlake (Have Your Way and Give Me Life) and Backstreet Boys (I Like It).

There are only a couple of ballads here, namely Gotta Try It and Don't Know That, but Evolution will have more appeal beyond their teenybopper fanbase.

Just as they have matured in real life, JLS have undergone their own musical evolution and sound all the better for it.
