MORE than 30 jobs will be created when Far Eastern cuisine comes to a Hampshire shopping centre at two new restaurants.

The pan-Asian restaurant Wagamama and Japanese eatery YO! Sushi are being added to the huge list of high street names opening up at the multi-million-pound Whiteley Shopping Centre.

Around 30 positions are being created at Wagamama, which is due to open on January 22, while further jobs will be created when YO! Sushi opens its doors in the spring.

They join a growing collection of well-known restaurants at Whiteley’s new shopping Mecca, including Chimichanga, Dean’s Diner, Frankie & Benny’s, Prezzo and Harvester.

Neil Carter, centre manager for Whiteley Shopping, said: “Wagamama will make an exciting new addition for Whiteley and we know the new winter menu will go down brilliantly with our visitors.”

Work will also start soon on Whiteley’s second phase which includes more restaurants and a nine-screen Cineworld cinema.

It is the latest jobs boost at the complex, which opened amid great fanfare in early summer last year.

As previously reported, some 1,550 jobs have been created through the project so far while 1,900 more workers and specialist contractors were involved in building work.

Thousands queued to attend a jobs fair as a major recruitment drive got underway in the weeks before the grand opening.
