DESPITE a week filled with hail, frost and thunderstorms things are looking up for the Bank Holiday weekend - for one day at least.

According to the Met Office Saturday will be the best day of the long weekend with highs of 12 degrees predicted across the conurbation.

It will remain largely dry throughout the day with plenty of sunny spells which means hundreds are likely to flock to the beach.

Unfortunately the wind will pick up on Sunday and on Monday the wind will be joined by scattered showers.

During the day temperatures are expected to remain around the low teens but overnight on Friday and Saturday they will drop to around three degrees which means more frosty mornings.

Met Office spokesman Lindsay Mears said April weather can be quite unpredictable and wintry showers, including snow, is not unusual for this time of year.

“April usually acts as a transition period into May and the warmer more stable weather,” she added.

“But while the temperatures may increase it won’t stop us from getting the usual rain and showers we have come to expect in Britain.”
