Storm Gertrude will bring some extremely strong gusts of wind to Dorset today, with some places seeing as much as 53mph winds overnight.
While the south coast will be spared most of the impact of the storm, winds are set to rise all day, peaking in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Gusts of up to 50mph are expected this morning along parts of the coast, before dying down briefly this afternoon.
The wind will then pick back up again, with gusts of 53 mph expected by midnight.
On Friday morning, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain for Dorset.
Rainfall forecast for mightnight on Saturday
The warning is valid from 5pm on Friday until 8am on Saturday morning.
A spokesperson said: "A cold front is expected to move eastwards across the yellow area during Friday evening and night, before clearing during Saturday morning.
"Around 5-15 mm of rain is expected to fall quite widely, with 40 mm possible over high ground - most likely across Wales and southwest England.
"This warning has been updated to extend the area eastwards across other southern counties of England."
The Met Office has issued amber alerts for strong winds for parts of Scotland with a red warning - the highest warning the Met Office can issue - in force for Orkney and Shetland.
Flooding in the New Forest caused by rain on Wednesday was the worst in 15 years, one local councillor has claimed, and with ground still saturated from those floods, more disruption is likely.
