A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office for this evening.

A alert, which means 'be aware', is valid from 4pm today until 11am on Saturday.

The warning says: "Icy stretches are likely to form on untreated surfaces on Friday evening, overnight and into Saturday morning. The public should be aware of the risk of difficult driving conditions."

The spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Road surface temperatures will fall widely below freezing on Friday evening and overnight into Saturday, leading to a risk of ice on untreated surfaces."

Forecasters at the Met Office had issued a yellow alert for snow for Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset for Monday. However, the warning for the South West was updated at lunchtime and no longer includes Dorset.

A level two cold alert is currently in place, which is triggered by the Met Office as soon as the risk is 60% or above for any of the thresholds to be breached.

The threshold values that need to be breached for a cold alert to be issued are: when the mean temperature drops below 2C for 48 hours or longer or when heavy snow and/or widespread ice occurs.

On Thursday night, readers reported snow in Blandford, Broadstone, Wareham, Creekmoor, Ferndown, and Fordingbridge.

Temperatures are set to remain colder than average over the next few days. Saturday will cloudy with a high of 6C forecast but it will feel more like 1C during the afternoon.

There will be sunny intervals on Sunday with temperatures feeling no warmer than 0C. Temperatures are set to feel like -5C overnight on Sunday, with it feeling like 0C during the daytime.
