A weather warning has been issued for ice in parts of Dorset this morning.

The Met Office issued the yellow 'be aware' warning at 4.47am on Friday morning.

A spokesperson said: "Wintry showers are expected to continue to affect the area this morning.

"Clear skies between showers will allow surfaces to dip below freezing away from windward coastal areas with icy patches expected to form on untreated surfaces and where showers have led to treatment wash off.

"Please be aware of the potential for difficult driving conditions and some disruption to travel.

The Chief Forecaster added: "After yesterday evenings rain, clear skies and a cold westerly flow have followed allowing surfaces to fall below freezing and a frost to develop away from windward coastal areas.

"Where roads and pavements remain wet icy patches are therefore expected to form on untreated surfaces. In addition scattered wintry showers may lead to wash off of treatment in places introducing an additional ice risk in these areas."
