WHAT a whopper.

An amateur fisherman couldn't believe his luck when he accidentally caught this seven-ft porbeagle in the cool waters of Poole Bay.

He landed the 210lb shark on Tuesday, 10 miles off shore and immediately delivered it to Geoff Cooper of United Fish in Bournemouth.

Geoff said he was "thrilled" at receiving the whopper and is looking forward to supplying local restaurants with such a delicacy.

Porbeagle sharks, which are otherwise known as mackerel sharks, are thought by some to be the fastest swimmers in the sea.

As a member of the notorious mackerel family which can count the great white as well as the spectacular mako shark among its relatives, the porbeagle is a native to this area and the Isle of Wight.
