HEART FELT: Ruth Stannard presents the Shining World Compassion Award to Alison Cronin in recognition of the work of Monkey World in rescuing 88 capuchin monkeys from a medical lab in Chile

MONKEY World, the Wool primate rescue centre, has been honoured for its "selfless liberating and caring for our animal friends".

The unique Shining World Compassionate Award, from the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association, was presented to Monkey World director Dr Alison Cronin on Thursday.

A cheque for $5,000 accompanied the plaque, which was presented by association representative Ruth Stannard.

Dr Cronin said: "It is just a fantastic award, one that recognises acts of kindness towards the animal kingdom, which at Monkey World we feel is really important.

"I am honoured and pleased, especially as this award is given for acts of kindness, which is something we need more of in the world."

Earlier this year Monkey World freed 88 capuchin monkeys from a medical lab in Santiago, Chile.

The primates had been kept in confinement in small indoor cages, some for as many as 20 years, and subjected to invasive medical tests.

The association, which is a non-profit-making organisation, contacted Monkey World in February.

A Supreme Master Ching Hai spokesman said they were "privileged to present the award to Monkey World" for their "benevolent, courageous and noble leadership and peace-loving efforts to improve our world".

"This award is to show gratitude and to magnify a shining example of goodness for others to follow, and it is absolutely unconditional."

Previous winners of Shining World Awards include the Animals Asia Foundation and Shana, a dog who rescued her owners during an ice storm in the USA.

Because it's a link to Monkey World's website. Not everything is a commerical.

This award is very well deserved, if only there were more organisations in the world for other species we wouldn't be in teh situation we are with endangered animals.

It's a hyperlink that the Echo (who regularly supports the charitable work that Monkey World does) has decided to put in on THEIR website. As it's THEIR website, they can support who they ruddy-well like (and a well deserved cause in this case) and if you don't like it, then please feel free to go visit other sites ... e.g. www.disneyland.com etc., which might be more suited to your apparent level of maturity... to have a cheap pop at the work that Alison and her team does at Monkey World, just about sume up what is wrong with some people these days... obviously too much time on your hands criticising those that do try and make the World a better place (or papers that help promote such places) instead of doign something positive.

It appears you know how to get onto a PC, but do not know how its functions work, in the case, like the hyperlink.

Anyway, back to the story. As already said, a fantastic accolade for Dr. Alison Cronin and the team at http://www.monkeywor
ld.org/ and great feat in the memory of Jim Cronin.

Monkey World has been a fantastic part of Dorset, and once again is in the front line of the news.

Well Done.

Hey Guys, whilst everyone is jumping on the band wagon about Laurie Marsh
comment, Maybe we should all remember that we all support monkey world and the fantastiic work they do BUT lets remember why she won it, "for acts of Kindness" not just to Animals, but also to people So lets forgive and forget and I am sure Laurie will think twice before asking a question again, espically If it is to a membership group who support with such passion and feeling hoping not to offend anyone x x vivienne
